ON DESTINY AND PURPOSE
BY RAIMI AYISAT TITILAYO

I was going through this pathology slide some days back. It’s one of the courses I offer at the university, and it made my brain click on something I’ve been agreeing to for a while now. It talked about how the body tries to adapt to any stress experienced, adjusting and functioning without causing harm to the whole system. It also spoke about the process of “inflammation” as an action taken by the body to heal itself until it can no longer cope. It confirmed even more what I’ve been thinking about: all God made, He made perfect.
The truth is that when God made the world and everything in it, He created it with a defined purpose for each being or system. The sun’s purpose is to govern the day by providing its great light to the Earth (Genesis 1:16). The ocean was made as a living space for fish and other aquatic life (Genesis 1:20). Humans were made for dominion, too (vs 26).
You can see that in all that God made, He gave each of them purpose and directions to follow. He made matter (solid, liquid, and gas) one way; they are supposed to function only in that way. And should there be any deviation from their purpose, He made an avenue to retrace everyone and everything back to its purpose. That’s what I figured out about the human body on that day. (Psalms 119:91; Jeremiah 33:25). The Bible also explains that after the fall of man, it is only in Jesus that all creation will be held together too (Colossians 1:15-17). He called all He created “good” (Genesis 1:31).
Now that’s not even the talk of the day.
A few days back, I was looking in the mirror, and everything I saw staring back at me looked bizarre to me; my eyes, nose, chin, hair, and even the personality I present to the world. After God, I’m the next person to know myself well, which means that even though I couldn’t see my personality visibly in the mirror, I could still see through myself. It was a moment of, “Who is this?” “Who are you, Ayisat?” “Why are you this being?” “I mean, you could be anything else, maybe air or even another being out there. Why did you have to be you?” And oh no, it wasn’t a thing of being discontent with my life and journey. Within those few seconds, everything was just weird to me. It didn’t take long before Jeremiah 1:5 came to mind too. It says that God knew me even before He formed me. God made me who I am specifically for a purpose. I was designed to be an addition and a blessing to this world.
All of God’s creations may look like they may not be ailing or unwhole anymore, but it is the desire of everything God has made to go after the essence of its creation because that’s what makes us complete and whole, including the universe. It is tired of the new diseases, tragic accidents, economic falls, and lives or purposes that don’t glorify its maker. The universe wants to be whole too. It is waiting for me to recognize why God has called me here and to dominate in that field.
And me? I was made in the image of God. Can an image exist without a reflection from the being itself? It means I cease (in spirit and function) to exist if I do not reflect God. It also means I need to align with God to live out my purpose of dominating and showing forth God’s excellence in me.
My God is very brilliant, and with the little depth of His creation and comprehension that He has given us humans about His great agenda, I am grateful.
Today, I agree and am thankful our God is very sensible. All that He created was with an assignment in mind for all. We function and run for that purpose. I am thankful that I am not living a useless or fruitless life here on Earth. It really makes me glad that even though I have little control over my death and life, what fuels me to continue to exist on the inside—like an engine—is the purpose for which God has called me here.
On this note, I am very thankful for myself. I am thankful for the existence of the person of Ayisat Raimi in the concept of time, the universe, and being here on Earth since January 14th, 2002, till the day God says she ceases to exist. Even when it is the year 3003, if Jesus tarries, her existence will never be erased from time. I am grateful that God even felt I was worthy to be a product of His thoughts and creative ability. I am certain I will live out the purpose for which He has called me because He will help me.
“Your regulations remain true to this day, for everything serves your plans.” (Psalms 119:91 NLT)
“I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born, I set you apart and appointed you…” (Jeremiah 1:5 NLT)
